A Message from the Master

Our Grange
membership continues to grow and rental bookings of both sides of our
facility are strong. We recently completed replacing the floor in the
dinning area, painting the walls, and painting the foyer and our Grange
looks better than ever! Come join us for our Grange meeting every
third Friday of the month - check our Calendar of Events menu for other
events also.
Three scores
and twelve years ago today, Mt. Hamilton Grange #469 was established by a small
group of farmers with a belief that if they act collectively, success is just
around the corner and if they pursue their goals with strong determination,
there is nothing that can stop them from achieving and realizing their dreams
in life.
From then on
until today, I believe that thousands of Americans have benefited
one way or the other from the voluntary and thankless efforts exerted
by the Grangers in their relentless pursuit to find ways and means to
make our farming and urban communities a better place in which to live, work,
and play. For many past and present members, Mt. Hamilton Grange #469 has
become a place in which they acquire and develop a solid base from where
they embarked, in order to plunge themselves into the daunting challenges
of life.
We, the members of Mt.
Hamilton Grange #469 do not fear the winds of change and
the winds of advance technologies which are blowing across so much of the
world. To us, they make a wonderful sound; and as the seeds they carry take
root and grow, we will feel that the noble purpose of Mt. Hamilton Grange
#469 in this world is being fulfilled.
I think that I am speaking for all of you when I say that we have existed in this
world in order that we may pause for a moment in which to fortify our faith and
to renew our courage and to make strong our spirit. We shall have realized what
ordinary words can scarcely make real to us; we shall realize what it is that
needs our spiritual and material understanding and dedication, what it is that
we are called upon to preserve and maintain at any cost for our young children
to enjoy.
And by being together we shall
remember that we are part of a great company, we shall remember that we are not
mere individuals isolated in a tempest, but that we are members of a community
- that what we have to do, we shall do together.
If there is a call
upon us to do something to preserve the noble and illustrious campaign to
improve conditions that is undertaken with zeal by Mt. Hamilton Grange #469,
let us do it together with zealous vigor. And to paraphrase the late President
Kennedy, "Ask not what Mt. Hamilton Grange #469 can do for you. Ask what
you can do to promote the goals of Mt. Hamilton Grange #469. My fellow
Grangers, ask not what the Grange will do for you, but what together we can do
for the well being of those who will follow our footsteps".
And now let us
indulge in an honest exultation in the conviction of the benefit which the
example of Mt. Hamilton Grange #469 has produced and is likely to produce on
human freedom and human happiness. And let us endeavor to comprehend in all its
magnitude and to feel in all its importance the part assigned to us in the
great drama of human affairs. Let the sacred obligations which have devolved on
every member of Mt. Hamilton Grange, sink deep into the labyrinthine chambers
of our hearts.
You had perhaps
hoped, as I did, that we should have reached a point in our lives when we could
look forward in a few more years to retiring from active responsibility in the
heat of the day, and could look forward to withdrawing into the calm of a
cooler evening. You know that, that is not to be. We have not yet earned our
right to rest at ease. Our job is not done and you have seen nothing yet; hence
the quest will go on.
